TRUE WIDOW TAKES TO THE ROAD FOR SPRING TOUR IN SUPPORT OF THEIR SELF-TITLED ALBUM
“a mix of shoegaze and post rock, displaying a knack for delivering the rock goods while keeping the pace slow and steady…No gimmicks, just awesome music." – CRAWDADDY
Los Angeles, CA, January 28, 2010 – True Widow, the sonic noir trio out of Dallas, known for their grunge-like riffs and wistful vocals, are announcing the launch of their spring tour dates, starting on February 19 in Denton, TX, and finishing in Los Angeles on March 6.
Led by Texas native, songwriter/guitarist Dan Phillips (former member of the emo-rock band, Slowride), the shoegaze musicians with the dreamy yet menacing undertones have been riding steady from the wave of praise from their self-titled 2008 debut album released through End Sounds. The group’s debut album was produced by Matt Pence (Centro-Matic, Slowride) and mastered by Dave McNair (Buddy Guy, Double Trouble, Willie Nelson).
Vocals from Phillips and bassist/vocalist Nicole Estill are lauded for their captivating lyrics, ones that can take hold of the listener just long enough for the rhythmic bite of the instrumentals to strike. Summing up the trio is drummer Tim Starks adding a sense of cohesiveness to True Widow both in tone and rhythm.
Tracks “Duelist,” “Bleeder” and “A.K.A.” were well received by college radio landing the band on CMJ’s Top 200 chart. Most recently, the band release a video for “A.K.A,” which was shot and cut in Sweden by Mats Ek.
Having made their way onstage at the 2009 Noise Pop Festival and performing at SXSW in both 2008 and 2009, as well as throughout the U.S. from coast to coast. Pete Freeman of the Dallas Observer puts it simply: “Dallas’ own True Widow has, well, basically come out of nowhere in the past couple months to fill the surprisingly heavy void within the city’s scene—and fill it quite capably, thanks.”
