Story: Montgomery, AL rockers EVOLETT take their name from a character in fantasy film 10,000 BC -- a pretty young girl whose doe-eyed beauty conceals the soul of a warrior. The band is fronted by 19-year-old Haden Brightwell, whose sweet countenance can’t disguise a big, belting voice capable of tearing a hole in the hull of an oil tanker. Coincidence? We think not.
EVOLETT is where melody and musical might meet, where wailing, weapons-grade guitar licks erupt into infectious choruses that reverberate in your head for days – and not because you’ve got tinnitus. The band’s debut album, For Your Consideration, finds its sonic center in the highly combustible, hard-hitting combination of Brightwell’s pealing-bell pipes and her bandmates’ churning, chomping riffs, achieving the perfect balance of brawn and beauty. The foundation of EVOLETT was forged in 2008, and today Brightwell, guitarist Adam Jessamine, guitarist Russ Daly, and bassist Jake Sloan stand ready to take the band to a lofty level. Musically, they find inspiration in a broad spectrum of sounds, drawing on everything from Underoath’s metalcore and the post-hardcore of Taking Back Sunday to the industrial rock of Nine Inch Nails and the doom-metal roar of Sleep. In less than two years together, EVOLETT has taken the alternative rock scene by storm, sharing stages with a stellar batch of bands including Mae, Neon Trees, Terrible Things, NeverShoutNever, Cartel, Mayday Parade, and Hot Rod Circuit. To call them a band on a mission would be an understatement. “We have a singular goal,” says Daly. “If we can get one person into our music each night, then that’s a good thing.”
Not wasting any time in spreading their sonic message to the world at large, EVOLETT started work on their debut album at Rhode Island’s Strangeways Recording in October 2009, before they even had a deal. But you can’t keep this kind of sound underground for long, and by February 2010, the band had signed with Austin’s esteemed End Sounds label, appearing at the End Sounds SXSW Showcase the following month. The ambitious Alabamans called the first fruit of their collaboration For Your Consideration.
Produced by Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit, Terrible Things, Death In The Park) and Mike Poorman (Piebald, Hot Rod Circuit, Therefore I Am), and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper (Kaki King, Bad Brains), the album features ten anthemic tunes that merge pop hooks with in-your-face rock power, as Brightwell’s soaring vocals glide over a raw and relentless guitar assault.
With their album now complete, EVOLETT is ready to meet the world head-on. Their lead single, “The Compromise,” is already a fan favorite, garnering the lion’s share of MySpace spins. From “We All Fall Down” -- a rocking reminder to keep our own faults in mind when judging others -- to “Genetic Makeup,” an emotion-packed tune inspired by the relationship lost between Brightwell and her estranged father, there’s no letup on For Your Consideration. With its release, EVOLETT is ready to leap headfirst into hardcore touring mode, supporting their debut release, and spreading their blend of the heavy and the heady wherever they go.
